Shingles Featuring Cool Roof Technology

ROOFINGADMIN • Mar 14, 2023

Pinnacle Sun shingles from Atlas are manufactured with solar-reflective 3M Cool Roofing granules, making them an energy-efficient and economically friendly asphalt shingle option. These shingles are designed to reflect the sun’s radiant heat away from the roof, which reduces the amount of heat that enters the home and lowers indoor air temperatures. In fact, the Solar Reflective Index (SRI) of Pinnacle Sun shingles meets the standards set by the Cool Roof Rating Council and may comply with reflectivity requirements of city and state building codes. This makes Pinnacle Sun shingles ideal for regions with year-round cooling needs.

In addition to 3M Cool Roofing Granules, Pinnacle Sun shingles are made with 3M Smog-reducing granules and 3M Scotchgard Protector.

3M Smog-reducing granules draw inspiration from the power of trees. These granules are formulated with a photocatalytic coating that is activated by sunlight. The activated granules on the shingle transform smog into water-soluble ions that help improve air quality. A standard-sized roof equipped with Pinnacle Sun shingles can combat the smog-pollution equivalent of two to three trees, helping to remove air pollutants one roof at a time.

Available in a variety of beautiful colors inspired by coastal regions, and with the added power of Scotchgard Protector, which prevents ugly black streaks caused by algae, Pinnacle Sun shingles provide stunning curb appeal that lasts.

With its blend of distinctive features, including cool roof and smog-reducing technologies, a lifetime warranty against black streaks and stains, 130 mph wind resistance and HP42 technology, Pinnacle Sun is one of the most unique asphalt shingles on the market today.

Pinnacle Sun shingles are now one of three products in Atlas Roofing’s Pinnacle line, which also includes its new Pinnacle Impact shingles, as well as its original Pinnacle Pristine shingles.

Atlas is currently accepting new product orders for Pinnacle Sun (and Pinnacle Impact) shingles, which are scheduled to begin shipping between late March to mid-April 2023.

Most homeowners in the U.S. choose asphalt shingles because they are of the easiest to find, most affordable and versatile types of roofing. The most durable types of roofing are slate and clay tiles but they’re more expensive than materials like metal or wood. Functional roofing alternatives like green roofs and solar shingles are among the most expensive types.

Firestone Building Products offers Industrial Elastomeric Roof Coatings for metal roofs. The coatings are formulated with 100 percent acrylic polymer and are designed to offer superior adhesion, water protection and durability. The ENERGY STAR-approved coatings may help significantly reduce a roof’s surface temperature by up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, thus reducing peak cooling demands. According to the manufacturer, the white coating ensures a high level of reflective properties that keeps the roof near ambient air temperature, while minimizing stress to fasteners and seams. Firestone’s Industrial Elastomeric Roof Coatings are backed by a 10-year warranty and are available in colors including gray, tan and black.
